Prior to joining Attivo Group and starting the Financial Adviser Apprenticeship, I had been at the University of Portsmouth where I got my Masters degree in Finance. I had several part time jobs whilst I was looking for a role within the financial planning sector, and I chose to apply to Attivo Group as I was impressed with the support given for the professional exams and the clear pathways for an individual to progress through their chosen career. I was also impressed with the mission statement that the company wanted to grow and establish itself as the best independent financial planning company in the UK. It was exciting to join a company that has such high expectations and has core values that I could personally identify with.
Before I enrolled on the apprenticeship I was completing the diploma through self-study, however, juggling studying and a full-time role was difficult at times. The apprenticeship offered increased support through the day release and the facilities at the University of Gloucestershire, as well as the excellent training provided by the R0 exam specialist tutors at Bespoke Training Solutions. It also gave us a chance to develop soft skills such as presenting and communicating to clients which are not covered in the exams. This helped to give us a full picture of what will be required upon becoming a financial planner.
For me, the highlights of the apprenticeship include the camaraderie with the other apprentices – the study days and the post exam day celebrations. The support offered by both Attivo Group and Clair Vincent, the apprenticeship tutor at the University of Gloucestershire, was also really valuable.
I gained the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning in November 2020 and I have moved into the Paraplanning team. I hope to build upon the knowledge I have gained so far and continue with my studies to achieve the Advanced Diploma. My ultimate aim is to become a Chartered Financial Planner and reach Fellowship status with the PFS.
