I initially chose to apply for a role at Attivo Group as I had heard great things about the company and was ready for a new challenge, having only ever worked within mortgages previously. I joined Attivo Financial Planning in 2017 as a Client Services Coordinator and I started the Financial Planner Apprenticeship in April 2019.
I was sceptical about joining the apprenticeship at first. I had already failed two exams which had knocked my confidence and made me question if I was ever going to pass one exam, let alone six. However, the support from the business, the University of Gloucestershire and my fellow apprentices helped me to achieve my Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. I have never been one to learn from reading a book as I am a visual learner, so the classroom study sessions and discussions really helped me retain the information I was learning. Some exams I found easier than others and I didn’t pass them all first time. The encouragement I got from my lecturer, Clair Vincent, and my fellow apprentices really helped me to not get disheartened by a fail but to learn from it and not give up.
Since passing my diploma I have moved roles within the business and I am now a Trainee Financial Planner, which helps me put what I’ve learnt into practise and continue building my knowledge of financial planning. Achieving the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning has been the highest qualification obtained in my career so far and it has given me the confidence to work towards the Advanced Diploma with the aim of progressing within the business to a Chartered Financial Planner.
